The 1983 Harley FXRT Sport Glide was a significant update to the Harley-Davidson lineup, offering a sportier touring experience with the classic Shovelhead engine. The bike's design included a rubber-mounted engine, a five-speed transmission, and a new-generation frame, making it a close cousin to the FXR and FXRS Super Glides. The FXRT featured an adjustable air suspension with an effective anti-dive system, an enclosed rear chain, a mid-sized fairing, and hard saddlebags. The engine's performance was impressive, with a strong 65 bhp at 5400 rpm and 67 lb-ft of torque at 3600 rpm, providing a smooth and predictable ride. The bike's weight of 668 lb. with a half-tank of gas was a notable feature, and it could maintain a top-gear roll-on performance close to that of a 754-lb., full-dress Gold Wing. The FXRT's engine started easily, warmed up quickly, and pulled powerfully from idle to the 5500-rpm redline, making it a strong contender in the touring category.
